Part-Time Software & DevOps Coach: AI-Native Development
Software Architecture, Agile, and AI-Generated Code Governance | Remote & Flexible Hours
The Engineering Project Management (EPM) Research Lab at the University of Calgary is seeking a part-time technical mentor/advisor to support a team of graduate students developing AI-enabled engineering and project management software systems.
We are looking for someone with practical experience in software architecture, Azure/cloud systems, Agile/Scrum workflows, DevOps practices, and the emerging paradigm of AI-assisted software development, including the use of generative AI coding tools and management of AI-generated code.
Expected involvement
Few hours per week (flexible)
Coaching students on Agile/Scrum practices
Supporting software architecture and system design
Guiding Azure DevOps / CI-CD pipeline development
Assisting with Git workflows, testing, deployment, and documentation practices
Helping establish code review and quality assurance practices for AI-generated code
Advising on responsible use of AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) within a research and team context
Helping establish continuous improvement processes across projects
Preferred experience
Demonstrated, hands-on experience with generative AI coding tools and workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar)
Cloud-based application development (Azure etc.)
Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
Agile/Scrum project management
Software architecture and API/system design
DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
Experience managing, reviewing, and governing AI-generated code in a team or production setting
Experience mentoring junior developers or student teams is an asset
This role is ideal for a senior developer, DevOps engineer, or software architect with demonstrable, hands-on experience in AI-native development and a genuine interest in applied AI, engineering systems, and mentoring young researchers in a research-driven product environment.
